MRI and 3D Printing

About the Project

This project was commissioned by Stijn Denissen, an Industrial PhD Candidate at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Icometrix.

The goal of the project was the creation of educational materials that young students could interact with. For this reason, the teacher of this class, Stijn, decided to have an MRI of his own brain. The resulting DICOM file was translated into multiple STL files, which correspond to different sections of the brain. All of these sections were printed solid with different colors in their real life-size. Also, a scaled down version of the brain was printed. This allowed the students to visualize where an individual section was located.
